Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) Skills Training On-line, Self-Paced Learning

We’ve all found ourselves in a crisis, in a conflict with someone important in our lives or overwhelmed by emotion and circumstances.  It can be difficult to maintain emotional balance while figuring out just how to navigate through those stressful times.  For some, repetitive stressful events and an inability to recover fully from one event before another occurs results in destructive behaviors, such as self-injury, suicide attempts, substance use, and relationship stress.

It takes skills to solve life’s problems while enduring intense emotion.  Skills are designed to specifically assist individuals to better manage behavioral, emotional and cognitive instability. Their intent is to help people with problems with intense emotions and impulsivity that create distress and chaos in their lives and relationships.

The Four Skill Modules Taught: Mindfulness, Distress Tolerance, Emotion Regulation, and Interpersonal Effectiveness

Mindfulness is designed to teach a person how to focus their mind and attention and create an awareness of the present moment.

Distress tolerance is centered on accepting the current situation and finding ways to survive and tolerate the moment without making it worse.

Emotion regulation skills focus on creating function in your emotions, increasing resilience, and developing self-regulation skills.

Finally, interpersonal effectiveness skills teach effective strategies for communicating needs in a way that others hear you.

Group Format

This group is designed to teach skills through an online, self-paced format.  You have the option to complete the course on your own, or with one-on-one coaching throughout the course, or with one-on-one direct teaching.

The goal is for people to gain new skills, get better at the skills they have and be able to use the skills when they are really needed, like during times of intense emotion, crisis or conflict.  An online, maintenance group will be offered for participants looking for support to apply skills in day-to-day life after completion of the online course.
